Booth, A. (1975). Drawing status and picture preferences of primary school children. Educational Studies, 1(1), 63-76.

An examination was made of the parameters of primary school children's preferences for adult pictures. The status of the children's drawings of a man were established by rating them on the Harris DAM point scale. The same scale was used to rate adult pictures of the same subject. These were then placed in a five interval scale and offered in random stays in a choice activity. Children from all status levels chose adult pictures superior to their own drawing products. A significant relationship was established between preference and status on this one dimension. A factor analysis of other picture dimensions and some children's characteristics did not reveal any serious alternative contributory factors to the preferences shown.
