Click, J. W. & Stempel, G., H. (1982). Reader response to front pages with modular format and color. ANPA News Research Report, 35, 2-5.

(...) These two observations lead to the research questions of this report:

  1. Do readers prefer front pages with spot color such as tint blocks or borders to similar pages with no color at all?
  2. Do readers prefer modular forms to less rectangular types of modern format and to traditional format in front pages?

(Conclusion.) This study, like our previous studies, does find that, in general, the public is receptive to the make-up innovations that have been made by newpapers in the past 15 years. It thus again reaffirms the judgment of newspaper editors and newspaper designers.
