Moore, D. M. & Sasse, E. B. (1971). Effect of size and type of still
projected pictures on immediate recall of content. AV Communication Review,
19(4), 437-450.
(Summary and conclusions.) Data showed:
- The size of the picture presented made a significant difference in the amount
of the subjects' immediate recall of content from pictures. (...)
- The type of picture presented made a statistically significant difference
in the amount of the subjects' immediate recall of content from pictures.
(...)
- The grade level of the subjects appeared to make a statistically significant
difference in the amount of the subjects' immediate recall of content from
pictures viewed. (...)
- Overall, line drawings on a medium size format seemed to have been the most
effective combination for testing immediate recall of content from a projected
image using multiple choice questions. However, this was not the case at the
seventh grade level, where the line drawings and large picture size seemed
to be the most effective combination for visual presentation. At the third
grade level, the paintings and medium picture size had the highest mean scores.
